Rotimi Amaechi has positioned himself as the most viable “national” candidate for the 2027 presidency while dismissing President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi as candidates driven by regional and ethnic interests.
Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has declared himself the most viable candidate for the 2027 presidential election, labeling his primary rivals President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi as “ethnic champions.” Speaking in a Channels TV interview on Friday, Amaechi argued that while his competitors represent regional interests (Yoruba, Hausa-Fulani, and Igbo, respectively), he stands as the only truly “Nigerian” candidate capable of solving the country’s systemic issues.
Amaechi, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, challenged the current political popularity of Obi and Atiku. Despite Peter Obi garnering over six million votes in 2023, Amaechi noted that the ADC currently has only three million registered members, questioning why those voters haven’t shifted to the new coalition. He asserted that had he been on the ballot in the previous election cycle, he would have secured a significantly higher vote count due to his national appeal and record in Rivers State.
Critiquing the current administration, the ADC chieftain insisted that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government was more effective than the incumbent Tinubu presidency. Citing widespread hunger and economic hardship, Amaechi positioned himself as the leader with the requisite experience to combat insecurity and overhaul governance. He maintained that the 2027 electorate is no longer looking for regional figureheads but for a president who can deliver concrete solutions to Nigeria’s mounting challenges.
