Senate Screens Taiwo Oyedele for Finance Minister Role
The Senate on Wednesday screened Taiwo Oyedele for the position of Minister of State for Finance following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The screening followed a letter from the president requesting the upper chamber to confirm Oyedele as replacement for Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Lawmakers questioned the nominee during plenary before proceeding with the confirmation process, as the administration seeks to strengthen its economic management team.
Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lamido Abubakar Yuguda, as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to Senate confirmation.
The nomination was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
Three Senators Defect from PDP to APC
Three senators on Wednesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress. The lawmakers are Senators Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North), Aminu Iyal Abbas (Adamawa Central), and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (Zamfara North).
Their defection further strengthens the APC’s presence in the Senate and reflects ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections.
NiMet Warns of Extreme Heat Across Several States
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a nationwide advisory warning residents about rising temperatures across several states. NiMet said the extreme heat could increase the risk of heat stress and other health complications.

Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Suit Against ICPC to March 25
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and four others until March 25.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment to allow parties in the case to regularise their processes before the hearing proceeds.
