President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deepest sympathies to world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua following a fatal road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Monday morning crash resulted in two fatalities and left Joshua with injuries. Addressing the athlete on X, Tinubu noted: “This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season.”
The President praised Joshua’s character and resilience, highlighting his status as a source of national pride despite the current hardship. He emphasized the need for national unity, stating: “In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny.” Tinubu concluded with prayers for the boxer’s recovery and the deceased.
The accident occurred near the Sagamu Interchange when Joshua’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck. Eyewitness Adeniyi Orojo reported: “Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him.” While the boxer sustained minor injuries, two occupants died instantly. The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
