Nigerian Army releases details of US-led airstrikes in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a significant operational success following a United States military-led airstrike on Lakurawa insurgent hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The strike followed earlier reports that the US military launched at least 12 Tomahawk missiles against the group last week.

The operation had sparked debate, with some security experts questioning its impact and claiming the missiles hit non-strategic locations. However, the Army dismissed those claims, insisting the strike yielded tangible results against the insurgents.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said troops of Combat Intelligence Battalion VII, working with US AFRICOM, targeted camps in Bauni Forest near Waria and Alkassim villages on December 25. She added that follow-up patrols confirmed extensive destruction, significantly degrading the terrorists’ operational capability.
