Tinubu leaves for Europe before Abu Dhabi summit, destination undisclosed

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break and ahead of an official trip to Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the journey precedes Tinubu’s participation in an international summit scheduled for early January.

The Presidency did not disclose the President’s specific European destination. However, SaharaReporters noted that Tinubu’s previous visits to Paris were repeatedly reported as concealed medical trips. No further details were provided on his activities during the European leg of the journey.

Onanuga said President Tinubu was invited by “His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed AlNahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates,” to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit. “With the theme ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go’, ADSW will connect ambition with action across innovation, finance, and people,” the statement said, adding that Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the summit.
