The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old security guard, Shuaibu Adamu, over the suspected killing of a worker at the Government House.
Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating the command received a distress call on Friday reporting the discovery of a male staff member, identified as Mallam Umar, found unresponsive within the premises. He was later confirmed dead at the Specialist Hospital.
According to the police, early findings indicated signs of assault before the victim was taken to the hospital, where his body was deposited for autopsy. Commissioner of Police Umar Chuso visited the scene and ordered a full investigation.
CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspect, also known as ‘Yaya Mama’, engaging with the victim shortly before he fled the area.
Mr Abdullahi said officers arrested Adamu during a follow-up operation at Bagadaza Quarters later on Friday. He stated that the suspect made statements during preliminary questioning and will remain in custody as investigations continue.
