Cancer patient and popular X user, Mensah Omolola, known as AuntieEsther, has died after declining a blood transfusion recommended during her treatment. Her death was confirmed on Saturday by media personality #AUNTYMUSE_, who supported her journey.
Responding to an online post announcing her passing, #AUNTYMUSE_ wrote, “May her soul rest in peace 🙏🙏.”
AuntieEsther had drawn nationwide attention after rejecting transfusion due to her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness. Nigerians donated over ₦30 million for her care, coordinated largely by charity advocate Wisdom Obi-Dickson. He previously explained that doctors offered both transfusion-supported and non-transfusion treatment options, adding, “Though it will take longer and cost more, we have to respect her religious beliefs.”
The decision generated controversy as some supporters questioned the refusal of medical advice. Obi-Dickson later expressed frustration, saying the family and church remained firm against transfusion despite medical guidance.
Meanwhile, #AUNTYMUSE_ maintained that her stance “had been stated clearly from the beginning,” and doctors initially agreed non-transfusion treatment could still work.
