The Lead Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare, criticized Nigerian senators for prioritizing political manoeuvres over addressing the country’s insecurity. Speaking during his State of the Nation Address in Lagos, he said, “It is a shame on our National Assembly that it took the United States Congress, not the representatives elected by Nigerians, to convene a hearing on the lived experiences of citizens suffering under insecurity.”
Bakare condemned politicians for being preoccupied with defections and election positioning, while the US Congress acted on the crisis. He also highlighted US President Donald Trump’s harsh remarks about Nigeria, calling it a “now-disgraced country,” and said the Nigerian government’s reactive measures exposed its earlier indifference. He alleged that leaders are “burying their heads in the sand like ostriches” amid the ongoing insecurity.
