FG declares Sept 5 public holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid, with Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urging Nigerians to uphold peace, unity, and compassion.

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Extending warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and beyond, the minister urged the faithful to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

“I wish to felicitate with the Muslim Ummah as they celebrate this significant occasion. These values remain essential in building a united, prosperous, and progressive nation,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He also encouraged Nigerians of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability, while supporting government efforts to foster national harmony and development.

Tunji-Ojo wished Muslims a joyous and peaceful celebration, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious.
