SERAP SUES INEC OVER ALLEGED N800BN APC CAMPAIGN FUND DIVERSION

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its alleged failure to investigate claims that governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform diverted ₦800 billion in public funds for political and campaign purposes.

According to SaharaReporters, the suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, asks the court to compel INEC to investigate the allegations and enforce campaign finance provisions under the Electoral Act. SERAP is also asking the court to direct INEC to demand full disclosure from the APC and the governors on the alleged campaign fund, including the identities of donors and the lawful sources of the money.

The rights group further seeks a formal review of political campaign financing compliance ahead of the 2027 elections. No hearing date has been fixed for the case.
