AEW 2026 to Spotlight Nigeria’s AI Race

Nigeria’s AI infrastructure boom is heading for the spotlight. African Energy Week 2026, holding in Cape Town from October 12–16, will examine the country’s fast-growing data centre and cloud economy, according to The Guardian.

Major players like Rack Centre, MTN’s Genova platform, Airtel’s Nxtra, and the Kasi Cloud AI campus in Lekki are driving expansion, backed by billions in investment. A “gas-to-compute” model is emerging too, with firms like Tetracore Energy and Seplat exploring gas-powered data centres to solve Nigeria’s electricity reliability issues.

African Energy Chamber’s NJ Ayuk warned Africa must not be a “passive consumer” in the AI economy. The debate centres on whether Nigeria can retain value from its energy, data and digital infrastructure growth.
