Republican Congressman Riley Moore says the White House and Congress will closely watch how Nigeria’s 2027 elections unfold, Premium Times reports.
Speaking to NoireTV, Moore said an appropriations bill he helped shape includes provisions on religious persecution and restrictions on US security assistance to Nigeria, and is likely to become law. Moore, a co-sponsor of the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act, said he was meeting President Trump to brief him further.
A related measure would withhold 50 per cent of specified US assistance until Nigeria addresses religious violence and displacement concerns, though it awaits congressional approval.
