President Donald Trump commended President Bola Tinubu for decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and protecting Christian communities across Nigeria.
The commendation was contained in a July 6, 2026 letter to Tinubu, with details released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Trump praised Tinubu’s efforts to improve security nationwide.
According to Punch, Trump also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Nigeria, including intelligence sharing, military training and joint counterterrorism efforts.
He said the United States would continue supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism through existing defence partnerships, describing the collaboration as vital to regional security and stability.
