Fossil fuels powered 57% of global electricity last year, a decrease from 65% in 2000, according to a Pew Research Centre report citing Ember data. Despite rapid renewable growth, coal, gas, and oil still constitute 86% of primary energy consumption. Wind and solar combined generated 17% of electricity, up from under 5% a decade ago.
