The University of Ibadan’s governing council has appointed Professor Peter Olapegba as the institution’s 14th Vice Chancellor, following a competitive selection process involving eight candidates.
UI Appoints Olapegba New Vice Chancellor
The University of Ibadan’s governing council has appointed Professor Peter Olapegba as the institution’s 14th Vice Chancellor, Daily Post reports.
Pro Chancellor and former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, said Olapegba emerged after a rigorous selection process that began with eight candidates, narrowed to five for interviews on Wednesday. Akande described the exercise as “thorough, transparent and highly competitive.” Olapegba, who lectures in the Department of Psychology, previously served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration).
He beat other contenders, including Professor Adeyinka Aderinto and Professor Adebola Ekanola, the university’s former Acting Vice Chancellor. Olapegba is expected to assume office on 1 December 2026.
