Delta police arrested a man who paid N900,000 to kidnap the aunt who raised him, after the supposed kidnappers exposed the plot and handed him over to authorities.
A 31-year-old man, Chukwemeka Destiny, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly plotting to kidnap his aunt, who raised him for 10 years. Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe said the suspect paid N900,000 to individuals he believed were kidnappers to execute the plan.
Edafe described the case as part of a troubling trend. “We’ve had cases where workers killed their employer… just because they want to cut away their jewelry,” he said. He added, “All of a sudden something just came up to his mind that let me kidnap my auntie who trained me… and that was what he did.”
The plot failed after the supposed kidnappers alerted authorities. “Unknown to him that the people he contacted were not kidnappers… they handed him over to the police,” Edafe said. Destiny admitted, “I am guilty… I don’t know what came over me.” His aunt said, “I was shocked. Crying,” insisting the law should take its course.
