A court in Abeokuta has remanded a nurse accused of supplying abortion drugs that allegedly led to the death of an NYSC member.
A Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta has remanded a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, over alleged involvement in the death of a corps member, National Youth Service Corps member Victoria Ariyo. The defendant faces charges bordering on conspiracy, attempted abortion, and murder following the incident linked to pregnancy complications.
The prosecution told the court that the nurse allegedly supplied drugs used in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy, which reportedly led to the victim’s death. The case is connected to the Local Government Inspector, Abass Olalekan, who was earlier arraigned on similar charges and granted bail after pleading not guilty.
Magistrate O.O. Sam-Obaleye granted the prosecution’s request to remand the defendant at the Ibara Correctional Centre for 60 days pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. The case was adjourned until May 26 for further mention.
