The event unfolded during the AFCON group stage fixture between Algeria and Equatorial Guinea. Following the match, two official soccer balls were discovered missing, prompting an investigation. When initially approached by officials regarding the disappearance, members of the Algerian backroom staff reportedly denied any knowledge or involvement in the incident.
However, stadium security personnel had already reviewed surveillance footage from the area where the balls went missing. The CCTV recordings clearly depicted members of the Algerian staff taking the two match balls. Confronted with the undeniable visual evidence, the staff members in question had no choice but to admit their actions and subsequently returned the stolen match balls.
