Obi, Kwankwaso supporters launch new political movement ahead of 2027

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have launched the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement to mobilise political support ahead of the African Democratic Congress presidential primaries.

A new political pressure group, the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement, has been unveiled in Abuja, signalling fresh realignments within Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group said it has already established structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside appointing state and zonal coordinators to drive nationwide mobilisation as permutations intensify within the ADC over its presidential ticket.

National Publicity Secretary of the movement, Justin Ijeh, said in a statement that the initiative brings together members of the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People’s Party and the ADC, describing it as a broad coalition aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape. He noted that the development reflects growing uncertainty over who will emerge as the ADC’s presidential candidate and mirrors the grassroots-driven structure that characterised Obi’s support base during the 2023 elections.

Addressing journalists, Ijeh said, “Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads. Today, as our people endure the weight of unprecedented economic hardship, the soaring cost of living, and the persistent shadow of insecurity, the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement formally announces the unveiling of its national and state structures.” The emergence of the group underscores ongoing efforts by opposition figures to build a unified front ahead of the next electoral cycle.
