Ferran Torres doubles down: Won’t apologise for ‘Make Spain Great Again’ hat at victory parade

Spain’s 2026 World Cup final hero Ferran Torres has ignited a political firestorm after wearing a red “Make Spain Great Again” hat โ€” echoing Donald Trump’s MAGA slogan โ€” at the victory parade in Madrid, drawing fierce criticism from left-wing politicians and media while Torres has made no apology, according to Fox News.

Ferran Torres scored the extra-time winner as Spain beat Argentina to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Then he started a political fight at home.

The Barcelona forward wore a red “Make Spain Great Again” hat during the victory parade in Madrid, in an apparent nod to President Donald Trump’s famous slogan. Criticism from Spain’s political left arrived immediately โ€” the deputy spokesman for the left-wing Sumar group accused Torres of real estate speculation, while progressive outlet El Plural described the hat as “a clear ideological message, provoking a multitude of criticism” on social media, Fox News reports.

Torres appeared unmoved. On Tuesday evening he posted new parade photos on X prominently featuring the hat, captioning them: “Somos los reyessssss! Vaya locura!” โ€” roughly translating as “We are the kings! It’s absolutely crazy!”

Whether the hat was a genuine political statement, a playful nod to Trump โ€” who presented the trophy to the Spanish team โ€” or something else entirely remains unclear. Torres has offered no explanation and no apology.
