President Bola Tinubu has urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to adopt a unified stance against xenophobic attacks targeting Africans in South Africa. Speaking at the 69th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in Sierra Leone, Tinubu strongly condemned the recent assaults on Nigerian citizens and others. He stressed that ECOWAS must present a united voice on this issue and bring it before the African Union to declare such intolerance unacceptable.
Tinubu reminded South Africa of the sacrifices made by African nations, including Nigeria, for their liberation. He also noted that Nigeria had already facilitated the evacuation of over 1490 citizens from South Africa and remains committed to regional peace and cooperation.
