Senator Slams NNPC for Dodging Senate Scrutiny

Senator Allwell Onyesoh, vice-chairman of the senate committee on petroleum resources (upstream), has accused NNPC Limited of dodging legislative scrutiny by repeatedly skipping invitations from the committee, which is probing ₦103 trillion in payables and ₦107 trillion in receivables in the company’s 2023 financial statement, The Cable reports.

Onyesoh, who staged a walkout in protest, dismissed NNPC’s excuse that officials were travelling abroad, questioning how the entire management could be away simultaneously. He rejected claims the firm answers only to the presidency, insisting President Bola Tinubu respects the National Assembly’s role. He also decried the underdevelopment of oil-producing communities.
