Gunmen storm Kogi school mid-exam, abduct principal, NECO staff, students

Gunmen have abducted a school principal, one NECO ad hoc staff member and four students during an ongoing NECO examination at Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area, with one student already rescued as security forces pursue the attackers.

Nigeria’s examination halls are no longer safe — and Kogi State is the latest to prove it.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed on Wednesday that armed attackers stormed Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina in Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday at approximately 5:25 p.m., abducting a school principal, one NECO ad hoc staff member and four students mid-examination.

“A combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants. So far, one of the abducted students has been rescued,” Command spokesperson ASP Salisu Oyiza said.

In a separate but equally disturbing Kogi development reported by The PUNCH, armed bandits on July 9 abducted occupants of a vehicle conveying a corpse along the Ochadamu-Ejule Expressway. The deceased — FRSC official Augustine Ikwue — had his casket eventually recovered and deposited at Elemona Mortuary, Ejule.
