First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has defended her viral comment on empowering women through petty trading, insisting the Renewed Hope Initiative remains committed to supporting grassroots businesses.
βI want to appeal to our young people in this country. Burna Boy, Asake and Davido, we want to see you come together under one foundation to help the poor with your money. The Maybachs and Rolls-Royces are good, but you can still help. The burden on the government is huge.β

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has defended her viral remarks on empowering women through petty trading, insisting the Renewed Hope Initiative is committed to supporting grassroots businesses.
Speaking on Saturday at the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Lokoja, Kogi State, she said the scheme benefits traders dealing in pepper, vegetables, okra, melon, akara and other small businesses.
According to The PUNCH, Tinubu also appealed to entertainers, including Davido, Burna Boy and Asake, to establish charitable foundations for the poor, saying luxury lifestyles should be matched with philanthropy.
She cited the story of an Abuja graduate who expanded his akara business to employ 12 workers after receiving support, reiterating that the empowerment programme would continue despite public criticism.
