Yusuf Tuggar is set to resign as Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister to pursue the 2027 Bauchi governorship election in line with federal directives.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, is set to resign from his position as he prepares to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State. Sources say the resignation letter will be submitted to President Bola Tinubu in compliance with electoral guidelines.
The move follows a directive by the presidency mandating all political appointees with ambitions for elective office to step down on or before March 31, 2026. The directive, issued through Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act and the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tuggar is expected to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, joining a growing list of government officials repositioning for the upcoming polls as political activities begin to gather momentum nationwide.
