President Donald Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during Friday’s 2026 World Cup final draw in Washington, D.C. FIFA president Gianni Infantino presented Trump with a gold trophy, medal, and certificate. “This is truly one of the great honors of my life,” Trump said. FIFA said the prize “rewards individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and by doing so have united people across the world.”
A video at the ceremony highlighted Trump’s diplomatic efforts, including the Abraham Accords and peace initiatives between multiple global nations. “He supported efforts to broker ceasefires and promote diplomatic engagement,” FIFA stated. Trump also claimed he ended wars that “saved millions and millions of lives” during his second term. The 48-team World Cup begins in June across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with the final scheduled for July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
