Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has claimed that he played a role in helping elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) manipulate the judiciary to frustrate Osun State’s local government allocation lawsuit. The minister made the statement while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in a video that has since gone viral on social media, and which was obtained by SaharaReporters.
Wike specifically accused APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru of benefiting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without being aware of the individuals working behind the scenes. The lawsuit had resulted in the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a move widely interpreted as politically motivated against the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Speaking angrily, Wike suggested that the court’s ruling in favor of the APC was not accidental, claiming that influential political forces had worked quietly to ensure the outcome. His remarks have sparked renewed debate over political interference in the judiciary and the allocation of government resources in opposition-controlled states.
Minister Wike has warned the National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru to stay clear of Rivers State.
