VIDEO: FCT minister Wike defies court order to demolish Abuja property

Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Development Control, supported by armed police officers, have demolished a property in Abuja’s Kukwaba District despite an active court case concerning the land. The owner of Most Realty and Investment Limited states his company was formally served with court papers that restrained any action on the site.

Moses, the owner, claims he has paid all required statutory fees to the FCT Administration for the prime land, which has been in his possession for over 17 years. He alleges that after the demolition, police officers returned with scavengers to sell off iron rods and other materials from the destroyed structures.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of demolitions under FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s administration, which has faced criticism for disregarding court orders. The Senate had previously directed the minister to halt all demolition exercises in Abuja until proper investigations were conducted, a resolution he has evidently defied.

In a statement, Moses said, “I have been paying all required fees without any problem… The matter was already in court… yet they still went ahead.”. He added that he allowed the demolition to proceed to avoid bloodshed, despite having his original ownership documents.
