Residents of Offa, Kwara State, were thrown into panic late Thursday night after loud explosions destroyed residential buildings and shops.
Eyewitnesses reported debris falling from the sky, suggesting drone-delivered bombs may have caused the blasts. “Why would they launch a bomb here?” one shaken resident asked, while another added, “We saw the drone remnants after it destroyed a house.”
A local vigilante who visited the scene confirmed the explosions occurred around midnight, affecting several houses, storey buildings, and a hotel near a prayer ground. “We thank God that no lives were lost,” he said. Video footage obtained by SaharaReporters shows debris scattered across the area and distressed residents calling for urgent government intervention.
It remains unclear whether the explosions were linked to the U.S. airstrikes recently announced by President Donald Trump targeting ISIS positions in Nigeria or were carried out solely by Nigerian forces.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, and investigations into the cause and scope of the incident are ongoing.
