President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are projected to spend a combined ₦9.36bn on local and foreign travels, as well as food and refreshments, in the 2026 fiscal year, according to details contained in the 2026 Appropriation Bill. The breakdown, released on Thursday by the Budget Office of the Federation, shows that the President alone is expected to spend ₦7.01bn on local and international travels, while ₦431.62m has been allocated for foodstuffs, catering materials, supplies, refreshments and meals.
The spending projections are part of the ₦58.18tn budget proposal presented by President Tinubu to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025. While presenting the estimates, the President said national security remained the foundation of economic growth, investment and social stability. The 2,790-page budget document sighted by Saturday PUNCH outlines the Federal Government’s fiscal priorities for the 2026 financial year.
According to the proposal, the Defence sector is allocated ₦3.2tn, the highest among key sectors, while ₦1.1tn is earmarked for Power. Education is to receive ₦2.3tn, while Health and Social Welfare are allocated ₦2.1tn. Agriculture and Food Security is budgeted ₦1.4tn, reflecting ongoing efforts to boost food production, while the Independent National Electoral Commission is set to receive ₦1tn.
