President Bola Tinubu has directed the Inspector-General of Police, security agency heads, and the National Economic Council to reorganise security deployment nationwide, including arming forest guards and reviving abandoned grazing reserves into functional ranches. Speaking at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, he stressed the need for urgent measures against kidnapping, terrorism, and farmer-herder clashes, saying, “We face challenges of Kidnapping and terrorism, we need all the forces that we can utilise.”
The president tasked Vice President Kashim Shettima to identify grazing reserves and settlements for redevelopment into modern livestock communities. Tinubu also ordered coordination between the Minister of the Interior, police, and Civil Defence to ensure community policing is not compromised. Highlighting economic opportunities, he urged governors to designate lands for ranches, declaring, “Let us stop this conflict area and turn it into economic opportunities and prosperity.” The directive follows the recall of over 11,500 police officers from VIP protection duties.
