Tinubu-linked Alpha-Beta fires operations boss, four others over alleged whistleblowing

Nigeria’s revenue consulting giant, Alpha-Beta Consulting, is facing a deepening leadership crisis following the forced retirement of its Head of Operations and the dismissal of four other employees over alleged whistleblowing and internal dissent.

Alpha-Beta Consulting, the controversial revenue firm long linked to President Bola Tinubu, has been hit by a wave of internal upheaval characterized by the forced retirement of a top executive and the summary dismissal of several staff members. Documents and insider accounts obtained by SaharaReporters indicate that the Managing Director, 72-year-old Akin Doherty, initiated a purge following a series of anonymous emails in May 2025 that criticized his leadership and staff welfare policies. At the heart of the crisis is the abrupt removal of Mrs. Olubunmi Morenikeji, the General Manager and Head of Operations, whose exit was officially attributed to her reaching the age of 60. However, insiders allege her removal was a retaliatory strike after Doherty accused her of masterminding the campaign for his removal. “She was one of the few executives delivering visible results, but she became a target after openly criticising management,” a senior source disclosed.

The turmoil escalated in March 2026 with the dismissal of at least four other employees—identified as Oluleke, Atolagbe, Ajibade, and Gafar—over alleged whistleblowing activities. These dismissals are reportedly part of a broader pattern of silencing dissent within the organization, which has also seen the departure of high-profile figures like Mr. Femi Odubiyi, a former Lagos commissioner. Sources suggest that Doherty, who declared his age as 71 during statements to authorities in June 2025, has prioritized loyalty over professional competence, allegedly retaining underperforming allies while forcing out those perceived as threats to his position. “Performance is not the criteria here. Loyalty is,” an insider noted, pointing to the retention of other retired executives who have reportedly failed to expand the company’s revenue streams.

Beyond the personnel crisis, Alpha-Beta is also grappling with a failure to implement transformative digital initiatives recommended by the global consulting firm Verraki during a 2021 strategy review. Proposals for fintech solutions, API monetization, and digital banking frameworks have reportedly been shelved, leaving the company’s operations stagnant within Lagos State’s internal revenue ecosystem. This lack of growth, coupled with Doherty’s alleged “repressive” leadership style, has left the firm in a state of deepening instability. As of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Alpha-Beta management has not issued a formal rebuttal to the leaked documents or the allegations of a systematic purge of whistleblowers.
