Two teenage Afghan asylum seekers, Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, both 17, were sentenced for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. CCTV footage showed them dragging the screaming victim to a secluded park on May 10, where Jahanzeb placed his hand over her mouth and forced her to perform oral sex. The victim recorded a distressing three-minute video pleading for help, which was played in court.
Jahanzeb received a 10 years and 8 months sentence, while Niazal was jailed for 9 years and 10 months, with the judge recommending their deportation. The court heard the boys, who arrived in the UK by small boats and lived in taxpayer-funded housing, knew the assault was criminal despite cultural differences. The victim, present in court, described the attack’s lasting impact on her safety and education.
