Sokoto housewife pours hot oil on husband’s private parts over infidelity suspicions

A Sokoto housewife has allegedly poured boiling melted butter on her husband’s private parts following a dispute over a phone call, though the victim has attributed the attack to his wife’s “spiritual condition” and declined legal action.

A domestic dispute in the Yar Gabas area of Sokoto metropolis took a violent turn on Thursday when a housewife allegedly poured boiling melted butter on her husband’s private parts. The victim, Bello Abubakar, sustained severe burns to his genitals and hands following an accusation that he was speaking with another woman on the phone. Despite the gravity of the assault, which occurred shortly after Abubakar returned from Subhi prayers at a local mosque, the husband has denied any marital impropriety. Instead, he attributed the violent outburst to a “spiritual condition” his wife has been battling, suggesting she was not in full control of her actions at the time of the incident.

Narrating the harrowing ordeal from a Specialist Hospital in Sokoto, Abubakar explained that he initially found his wife crying upon his arrival home around 8:00 a.m. While he was preparing to leave for work, she approached him while he was lying on the bed. “I was lying on the bed naked when she came in holding a cup containing melted butter. I didn’t suspect there was anything harmful in it, because whenever her condition relapses, she usually takes a cup to pray over water and drink,” he recounted. The surprise attack left him screaming in agony as the hot liquid caused immediate, deep tissue damage. “Suddenly, I felt something hot on my private part and I screamed. When I checked my hand, it was already burnt too. I sustained severe burns as a result of the hot butter poured on my body,” he added.

Despite the “nefarious act,” the families of both the victim and the suspect have moved toward an unconventional resolution. Tasiu Abubakar, a senior brother to the victim, noted that while the couple had previously lived in peace, there were underlying tensions involving the wife’s mother, whom he suspects may have influenced the act. However, in a bid to maintain communal harmony, both families have formally committed to a reconciliation process. They have collectively decided not to pursue legal action or police intervention regarding the fire incident. Meanwhile, medical officials at the hospital confirmed that Abubakar’s condition is currently improving as he continues to receive specialized treatment for his injuries.
