The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Jigawa State has received six suspected human trafficking victims from the Nigeria Immigration Service. The individuals were intercepted at the Babura Plantation Border Patrol Base in Babura Local Government Area. NAPTIP Commander Mr. Abdulkadir Turajo confirmed receipt of the suspects on Monday in Dutse.
The six individuals comprise two males and four females aged between 32 and 36 from Ogun, Imo, Lagos, and Enugu states. They were intercepted while traveling to Europe via Libya and Niger Republic. NAPTIP will conduct investigations to determine whether those involved are victims, agents, or accomplices in the trafficking operation.
“We charge you, residents and members of the public, to remain vigilant. Human trafficking syndicates often take advantage of the increased travel and festive excitement to lure unsuspecting victims. Verify offers, especially from unknown persons. The festive season must not become a trafficking season,” Turajo said. He commended the Immigration Service for its partnership in combating human trafficking.
