The embattled founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, on Tuesday reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for questioning over multiple allegations levelled against him.
It was gathered that Okafor presented himself at the SCID after initially failing to honour a police invitation on Monday, a development said to have followed caution from some highly placed persons over the implications of disobeying a lawful summons.
Sources said his earlier defiance was linked to an ongoing case involving his estranged lover, actress Doris Ogalla, at the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command in Onikan, where he reportedly believed a subsisting investigation excused him from responding to invitations from other police units.
A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Okafor was questioned and his statement taken but that he was not detained due to the absence of a complainant.
“His statement was taken, but he was not detained since there is no complainant yet. We have made attempts to reach out to the victims, even offered them protection and transportation to and from, but no one showed up,” the officer said, adding that the Lagos State Police Command would “stand down to allow Zone 2 to conclude their investigation.”
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the pastor was at the SCID on Tuesday afternoon but declined further details, as investigations continue into allegations of sexual impropriety, abuse of authority and other claims that have triggered public outrage and an official probe ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.
