Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminialayi Fubara of deliberately sidelining lawmakers in the governance of the state. Reacting to Fubara’s claim that he had been unable to meet the Assembly because FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had not convened such a meeting, Amaewhule described the governor’s remarks as “unnecessary and unfortunate.” He addressed reporters alongside 10 lawmakers at an emergency briefing.
Amaewhule alleged that Fubara has avoided working with the Assembly, claiming the governor has been spending from the 2024 and 2025 budgets without legislative approval. He accused Fubara of defaulting on agreements reached with lawmakers and warned that the governor’s actions risk triggering a fresh political crisis. He urged Fubara to act as a true leader, saying Rivers people “have suffered too much” due to the governor’s alleged indolence.
