The Federal Government has ordered an immediate suspension of all enforcement actions relating to the proposed ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle products. The directive, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), comes as consultations continue and a final policy directive is awaited.
The suspension follows concerns raised by the House of Representatives Committee on Food and Drugs Administration and Control. The committee, in a letter dated November 13, 2025, urged caution over the ban and referenced existing National Assembly resolutions on the matter.
The OSGF clarified that any enforcement action taken by NAFDAC or other agencies without official clearance would be invalid. The office assured Nigerians that it is reviewing legislative, economic, and public health considerations to ensure a balanced and lawful outcome, with the public to be informed once a final decision is made.
