Rivers: APC suspends Fubara indefinitely

Chieftain Fubara Dagogo has been suspended indefinitely from the All Progressives Congress (APC) by his ward in Rivers State after filing a ₦100 million lawsuit to halt the party’s national convention over his alleged exclusion from the South-South zonal vice-chairmanship race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) executive committee of Ward 4 in Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State, has announced the indefinite suspension of party chieftain Fubara Dagogo. The decision, reached during a committee meeting on March 16 and made public on Thursday, March 26, 2026, followed allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities. Ward Chairman Richard Ibani and Secretary Donald Jumbo, along with 21 other members, signed the resolution citing a breach of the APC Constitution. The leadership maintained that Dagogo’s recent actions were calculated to bring the party into “hatred and ridicule” just as thousands of delegates prepare to converge for the 2026 National Convention.

The suspension stems from a high-stakes legal challenge Dagogo instituted at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the ruling party. In the suit, Dagogo alleged that he was deliberately disenfranchised from contesting the position of National Vice-Chairman (South-South) despite fulfilling all financial obligations. He claimed that the party accepted his ₦5.1 million payment for the expression of interest and nomination forms but subsequently refused to issue him the necessary documents. Dagogo’s prayer to the court includes an injunction to halt the South-South zonal congress and the national convention, alongside a demand for ₦100 million in general damages for “humiliation and mental anguish.”

Responding to the grievances, the APC leadership has defended its internal processes, suggesting that some aspirants were unable to access forms because they sought to contest positions outside their designated geopolitical zones. During a press briefing in Abuja, government representatives noted that while the party encourages competition, it will not tolerate attempts to “create confusion” through the flouting of established zoning arrangements. As the case (FHC/ABJ/CS/591/2026) remains pending, Dagogo continues to insist on his eligibility, stating, “They said the forms have been exhausted and that they don’t have forms. They said they are waiting for forms to be printed. This is not the principle of the party.”
