Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in Kano metropolis were thrown into shock after unknown assailants reportedly killed a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son. The incident came to light on Saturday evening when the woman’s husband returned from work to find the house locked from the outside. Upon forcing the door open, he discovered the lifeless bodies of his wife and child, both burnt after the attack.
Confirming the incident, community leader Ahmad Sani expressed concern over the absence of security despite a police outpost built by residents. “For a long time, the community built a police outpost, but the authorities have yet to deploy personnel to man the facility,” he said, appealing to Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori to urgently deploy officers to prevent further attacks.
Kano Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna said the command is investigating the case. Similar incidents have occurred previously, including the murder of a five-month pregnant woman, Rumasau Shuaibu, in Farawa earlier this year.
Police investigations in that case are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
