The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has insisted that no court order bars the enforcement of the motor vehicle tinted glass permit policy, rejecting claims by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
In a statement on Wednesday signed by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said its response followed “recent public discussions” on the policy, particularly comments by the NBA president.
The police recalled that it announced plans to resume enforcement of the policy from January 2, 2026, citing rising vehicle-related crimes.
Addressing allegations of contempt of court, the statement said, “The Inspector-General of Police has reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its respect for the judiciary,” adding that it would “comply fully with all valid orders of courts of competent jurisdiction.”
The NPF said there is “no final judicial pronouncement declaring the Motor Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit Policy unlawful,” nor any subsisting order permanently restraining enforcement. It described the policy as part of existing security regulations and assured Nigerians that enforcement would be professional and rights-compliant, warning that officers involved in abuse or extortion would face disciplinary action.
