Suspected terrorists reportedly attacked a security formation in Niger State around 4am on Tuesday, opening fire on personnel guarding the area. The assailants were said to have come in large numbers, forcing some operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to flee for safety.
Sources told Daily Trust that during the attack, the gunmen seized some rifles belonging to the civil defence officers. The extent of casualties or damage resulting from the incident could not be immediately confirmed as details remained sketchy.
Confirming awareness of the incident, the Niger State NSCDC spokesperson, Abubakar Rabiu, said, “We heard a similar report but investigation is still ongoing because until now we cannot establish the extent of what really happened. So, our commandant will speak after the investigation.”
