‘Not a victory’ –Sowore slams incarceration of Blord following VeryDarkMan’s legal action

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the 26-day remand of crypto-businessman Blord in Kuje prison, urging his own lawyer to withdraw from the case to prevent the “weaponization” of the law against citizens.

Nigerian human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has publicly denounced the court-ordered detention of Bitcoin entrepreneur Linus Williams, popularly known as Blord, arguing that the use of “legal brilliance” to secure his incarceration does not constitute a true victory. The reaction followed a ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, which ordered Blord to be remanded in Kuje prison for 26 days. The remand is in connection with a 10-count charge including impersonation of social media critic VeryDarkMan, forgery, false endorsement, breach of privacy, and identity theft. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Sowore took to Facebook to express his discomfort with the proceedings, cautioning that “no one should celebrate the incarceration of any person under the color of law.

In a surprising turn, Sowore revealed that he has intervened directly by urging his personal human rights lawyer, Marshal D.F. Abubakar—who is part of the legal team representing the interests against Blord—to withdraw from the process. Sowore expressed concern that the success of the prosecution, led by Abubakar’s expertise, risks validating a judicial system that can be manipulated for personal vendettas. “I have reached out to my astute rights lawyer, Marshal D F Abubakar, urging him to disengage from the process. We must all agree that sending B-Lord to prison is not a victory for legal brilliance or advocacy. Rather, it risks emboldening a system of oppression that weaponizes the law against citizens,” Sowore wrote in his statement.

The activist further maintained that justice should not be synonymous with punitive measures for the sake of public spectacle or legal dominance. He vowed to intervene in the matter to ensure the case is discontinued, emphasizing that the legal system must remain a shield for rights rather than a sword for oppression. “Justice must never be reduced to punishment for its own sake. I will work to ensure this case is discontinued and B-Lord is released without further delay,” he added. As of Thursday morning, April 2, 2026, there has been no official response from VeryDarkMan’s camp regarding Sowore’s call for his lawyer to stand down or his vow to facilitate Blord’s release from the Kuje custodial center.
