A Ugandan tourist has praised the Murtala Muhammed International Airport for its improved organization and the elimination of staff extortion, a sentiment acknowledged by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo as a sign of steady progress.
A Ugandan traveler, Simpo Gladys, has expressed delight over the significant improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, noting a stark contrast from her experience two years ago. In a viral video, Gladys lauded the organized environment and heightened professionalism of the staff, noting that the facility is now almost unrecognizable compared to her last visit.
The tourist specifically highlighted the total absence of extortion, a practice she claimed was rampant during her 2024 trip when officials allegedly solicited foreign currency. She noted that during her recent arrival, airport personnel went out of their way to assist her without requesting “a single shilling” or any form of gratification, leaving her deeply impressed by the change in work culture.
Beyond service improvements, Gladys observed the ongoing modernization of the terminal, noting that the old structure she once used had been demolished to make way for a more beautiful facility. Responding to the video on X, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo acknowledged the feedback, stating that while the ministry still has “a lot of work to do,” the airport is making steady progress toward global standards.
