Wike Says PDP Will Field Candidates in 2027, Reclaim Lost Mandates
The National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the party will participate fully in the 2027 general election. Wike stated this on Sunday, noting that the PDP remains determined to remain a strong political force across the country.
He also said the party would move to reclaim mandates allegedly taken to other political parties by defectors in various states, stressing that efforts were underway to strengthen the party ahead of the next election cycle.
Gunmen Attack Plateau Community, Kill Several Residents
Gunmen on Sunday evening attacked the Agwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving an unspecified number of residents dead. The attackers reportedly stormed the community around 7:30 p.m., firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire while residents were going about their normal activities. Authorities had yet to release an official casualty figure as security agencies continued efforts to restore calm in the area.
Kwankwaso Resigns From NNPP Amid Political Realignment
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing the need for broader political realignment. The former presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general election announced his decision in a statement released on Sunday.

The agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement that three jumbo bags were recovered from a 36-year-old suspect identified as Akputa Ejike during the operation. The drugs were reportedly being trafficked to India.

Security operatives have arrested at least two community chiefs, a hunters’ association leader and 15 residents over violence linked to a long-standing boundary dispute between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities.
