Nigerian government discloses U.S. strike targets, launch platforms, and operation details

The Federal Government of Nigeria says it has, in coordination with the United States, conducted precision strike operations against two major Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves in the Bauni Forest area of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The strikes targeted locations identified as key assembly and staging grounds for ISIS elements infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel.

In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government said the operation was carried out between 00:12 and 01:30 on Friday, December 26, 2025, with the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was executed under established command structures with full involvement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

According to the statement, “A total of 16 GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms.” It added that debris fell in parts of Sokoto and Kwara states but no civilian casualties were recorded, as authorities secured the affected areas.
