The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the explosion at a mosque within Maiduguri’s Gamboru Market on Wednesday evening was a suicide bombing carried out by a Boko Haram insurgent.
Lt. Col. Sani Uba, spokesman for Operation Hadin Kai, stated that preliminary findings indicate the bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device, killing himself and two civilians at the scene.
“Preliminary findings indicated the incident was caused by a suspected Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) suicide bomber, who detonated an improvised explosive device, killing himself and two civilians on the scene.
He reported that security forces and emergency services responded promptly, cordoning off the area and evacuating casualties to hospitals in Maiduguri for treatment, where the injured remain in stable condition.
