Nigeria has suspended plans to hand over 10,000 hectares of land to Cameroon, a move halted after a motion by Rep. Victor Abang. The lawmaker said a joint committee set up after the 2002 ICJ ruling attempted demarcation without “proper recourse to the existing colonial boundary features,” ignoring Pillar 113A. “If such actions were allowed to continue, over 10,000 hectares of Nigerian land… would have been ceded to Cameroon,” he said.
Abang told constituents his July 5, 2023 motion led the House to halt the exercise “pending a comprehensive review.” He also unveiled a compendium of achievements, citing projects including telecom masts for 35 communities and ₦300m medical equipment for PHCs. The boundary process remains suspended as authorities conduct a comprehensive review.
