Nestlé says infant formula made in Nigeria unaffected by foreign recall

Nestlé Nigeria Plc has clarified that its infant formula products sold in the country were not affected by a voluntary, precautionary recall announced in some foreign markets, stressing that the recall involved specific batches distributed outside Nigeria.

The company said the products manufactured and sold by Nestlé Nigeria were not included, noting that items referenced in online reports were not supplied to the Nigerian market.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos by the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Toju Egbebi, who said all Nestlé infant formula products sold locally were duly registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. “We would like to reassure consumers that all SMA and NAN product ranges sold by Nestlé Nigeria are safe for consumption,” Ms Egbebi said, listing SMA Gold 1, SMA Gold 2, SMA Gold 3, NAN Optipro 1, NAN Optipro 2 and NAN Optipro 3.

She added that Nestlé Nigeria complies strictly with local and international food safety and quality standards, saying, “The safety and quality of our products, and the health of babies, remain our top priorities,” while urging consumers to rely on verified information or contact the company and regulatory authorities when in doubt.
