An improvised explosive device exploded along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara State on Wednesday, severely injuring several travellers.
According to counter-terrorism publication Zagazola Makama, the blast struck passengers in a Toyota Eagle Eye vehicle around 08:32am, causing the vehicle to lose control and sparking panic among other commuters.
Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma, supported by tactical units and bomb disposal experts, were deployed to secure the scene and assess the damage. The organisation said efforts were underway to determine the exact number of casualties as recovery operations continued.
The attack is suspected to have been coordinated by a bandit kingpin identified as Sadiku, believed to be linked to the Dogo Gide faction. Authorities have urged travellers to avoid isolated routes as security operations intensify. The Zamfara police command spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, was unavailable for comment.
